Where creative work gets funded

Fanfare allows creators to grow a community around a project and bring it to life with the help of their fans. We recognize that selling creative work is a different process for different creators, so we’re providing a wide array of tools that blend community with commerce, for creators to create their own fundraising journeys. At its core, Fanfare allows creators to do three things: sell existing work, both digital and physical, share ideas and updates around new ideas, sell pre-orders to fund production.

01

How it works

As a creator, you can start by building a Profile Page. A profile page is like a portfolio where you can sell existing work and share new ideas with your fans. In addition to being able to add products to your Creator Page, you can also create Projects. Projects are where you can turn an early idea into a fully-funded product.

02

Who is it for?

Fanfare is for anyone creating or supporting creative work that is product-based. Meaning, it’s great for things like games, products, books, anything that can be supported on its own. For example, a podcast is harder to fund on Fanfare, because it’s not a clearly defined product that can be funded and delivered, but a board game based on a podcast is a great thing to bring to Fanfare.

03

What does it cost?

Our pricing is very simple: standard features are free to use, and next year we will introduce more professional features which are expected to cost $99/month. Our pro-features are still being developed, but one example is going to be larger file-storage limits for digital rewards. On top of that, you can opt-in to our promotional program, where we will promote your work across our homepage, social media and email newsletters. We take a 10% commission from sales derived from these opt-in promos. Payment processing fees are 5% + $0.30 per transaction.

FANFARE IS UNIQUE

Memberships

With Fanfare, you can create Memberships are part of a Project. Memberships are a way to get some initial funding for a Project, without offering full-on pre-orders just yet. This allows you to see if your community thinks your idea is worth funding, without setting unrealistic expectations. For example, you want to launch a graphic novel, and you know that you’ll need $2,000 to do so, but you’re not sure if people love your idea yet. With Memberships, you can create an “I love your idea” tier for $5, offering an instant download with some of your artwork as a reward. When 100 people have purchased this membership, you can confidently launch pre-orders for your graphic novel, knowing that 100 people have proven willing to pay for your work and are likely to continue to do so!

Editions

Editions are another unique Fanfare feature. With Editions, you can reward your Members for their early support. Let’s take the graphic novel example, this project sold 100 “I love your idea” memberships for $5. When the project goes up for pre-orders, you can create a special “Early Edition” of your graphic novel, only available to those members! You can reward them by offering them a lower price and make sure all Early Editions are hand-signed by you!

Is this similar to crowdfunding?

Although raising funds for creative work may sound similar to crowdfunding as you may know it, Fanfare is very different under the hood, and it’s important to understand these differences. On Fanfare, pre-orders are legally binding, meaning that any product you offer up for pre-order must be fulfilled or refunded. Failing to deliver a pre-ordered product on Fanfare will have real-world legal consequences, similarly to what would happen if you accepted orders on Shopify or Amazon without shipping them. To facilitate new and experimental ideas, we have the Memberships feature, which is where you can ask people to support an idea without the expectation of a product in return. Memberships may or may not offer digital rewards and are a way to support an early idea that may or may not become a fully-fledged product.
